Another Very Safe and Successful M2M

The 36th Murray to Moyne is done and dusted.

We would like to thank all participants who took part this year and contributed to another very safe and enjoyable cycling weekend.  The weather conditions can be described as mild, but all routes from the Murray experienced a 20 KPH head or sidewind.  The wind did take its toll on the riders, but as the evening arrived, the wind reduced markedly and a mild night allowed everyone to enjoy the night riding.  Most teams arrived in Hamilton between 11 and 12 midnight, with a couple finally arriving by 1:30 am.  The ride down from Hamilton was very enjoyable with most riders making the final 90 kms their focus along with the lovely food offerings in both Hawkesdale and Macarthur.

The participants and their families were welcomed to Port Fairy by Shire Counsellor Damian Gleeson, who has had a long association with the ride and with Graham Woodrup in particular.  Damian thanked the organisers of the ride and all the participants and he particularly mentioned the important role of volunteers in events such as the M2M.

This years event has raised just under $400,000 for Health and Welfare organisations and we wish all Teams success in their preparations for next years event.
Congratulations to Ross Huntington from Team 240 - Velorates - Rotary Club of Ballarat West; Riding for the Ballarat Health Service Foundation for being awarded the Graham Woodrup Memorial Award for his efforts over the past 18 years.

During the time of Ross’ involvement, the team has raised and donated over $120,000 to the Leukaemia Foundation, with funds assisting with transport costs for regional patients to their life-saving treatment in Melbourne. Ross has also taken a lead role in organising fundraising dinners in the lead up to each Murray to Moyne, arranging guest speakers, venues, meals, ticketing, raffles and acting as MC for most of those dinners.

Ross has recruited over 70 riders for the team and for the past six years he has been Team Captain, organising riders and the logistics involved in participating in the M2M.  This year the Team is riding for the Ballarat  Health Service and Ross has been instrumental in developing a new relationship with this charity.  Ross has also been very generous with his time and expertise in assisting both Jimmy's Licorice Allsorts and the new Brat Pack Team  establish themselves with all the requirements in running a team in the M2M.
The GWMA was again presented by the dynamic duo - Hester Woodrup and Kate Winnen.
